Kulaura (Moulvibazar) Correspondent: A leaseholder has been fined Tk 100,000 for illegally extracting sand from the Manu River in Kulaura, Moulvibazar.
The operation was conducted on Tuesday (September 30) afternoon under the leadership of Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Anisul Islam.
According to land office sources, the lessee was extracting sand within one kilometer of the Rajapur bridge on the Manu River. Upon receiving the information, the Assistant Commissioner (Land) conducted a raid there. At that time, under the Sand and Soil Management Act, 2010, a fine of 1 lakh taka was imposed on the representative on behalf of the lessee and the amount was recovered.
Kulaura Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Anisul Islam said that orders have been issued to move sand extraction facilities to designated locations. Excavation of sand outside the designated area is a punishable offense. Such operations will continue in the future as well.
